Here is where I attempt to blog about Julianne Hough for 100 days straight. This was inspired by Allie Jones’ 500 blogs on Kristin Cavallari, a much funnier read.
It’s unclear when Julianne Hough attended her first Tony Robbins seminar, but it seems to be it was 2013 or 2014, sometime after her Ryan Seacrest breakup.
Tony Robbins is a self-help guru and public speaker who hosts large, multi-day seminars to help people achieve their best selves. (It’s also important to note that several people have accused him of sexual assault, according to BuzzFeed News. Julianne has continued to support Tony after the allegations came to light.) There is a documentary on Netflix dedicated to what he does and Julianne even makes a cameo in it. But since she attended that first seminar, she has brought up Tony’s work and seminar in several interviews and credited it as something that helped her change her life.
In a 2014 interview with Redbook, Julianne opened up about how all of her past romantic relationships didn’t feel right. (This interview came right after her breakup from Ryan Seacrest.)
“I had this epiphany when my family went to a six-day seminar [last November] about creating your own destiny,” Julianne told the magazine.
During a 2015 interview with Lewis Howes, Julianne credited Tony again with her new mindset. She said she didn’t want to go to the seminar at first, but Derek, her brother, wanted her to go. She went with him and her sisters, planning to only stay a few days but ended up staying the whole time.
“He’s so great,” Julianne said during the interview. “I know it sounds crazy because I’m such a believer of Tony Robbins, but it’s because he knows how to communicate with people and connect with people.”
She told Lewis that Tony gave her “clarity and awareness of things that I did and the kind of person I was being without even knowing it.” It helped her realize that when she was younger she wanted to be an entertainer because it was fun. Once she got older, it became about success — even though she says she never felt successful.
In 2016, Tony surprised Julianne for her birthday.
In 2016, Julianne and Derek both said during an interview that Tony was a mentor of theirs.
During a 2017 promotional video for the seminar, Julianne called it “life-changing.”
“I’m free now,” she said. “And I get emotional saying that because I was so trapped before with having to be perfect and prove myself. And now it’s like I’m skipping around and I feel so much. I used to hold everything in and I never used to cry because I was a strong cookie and nobody could touch that and I’m going to show you how strong I am.”
She compared her life to filling up a flashlight with batteries. When the artificial light ran out, she would look for something else. Then she realized she was the light.
“I didn’t know why I didn’t feel love even though I was trying so hard to love people and to get love,” she said.
Tony and his seminar helped her realize that she had people all around her who loved her, including her parents and siblings. It also helped her realize her values. She tells herself her values every day.
“Having the most mind blowing experience at Tony Robbins #businessmastery seminar with these amazing people right here,” she captioned the photo. “Thank you @tonyrobbins and Sage for your continuous generosity in helping people attain the most valuable tools to create the lives we were meant to live!”
