50 Days of Taylor Swift, Day 6: The Sexism in You Belong With Me

The blog (this blog, the one you’re reading) that brought you 100 Days of Julianne Hough and 50 Days of Addison Rae now brings you 50 Days of Taylor Swift. 1, 2, 3… Let’s go, bitchPhoto by Dwight McCann

“You Belong With Me” is one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs, but the inspiration behind the song is absolutely bananas. And sexist.

“… one of my friends and I walked by and he was talking on the phone with his girlfriend and she was screaming at him, just yelling at him,” Taylor said during a 2009 interview. “So loud that I could hear her voice coming through the phone, which is never good. … I felt so bad for him because it turned out that she was yelling at him because he said that he would call her back in 10 minutes and instead he called her back in 15.” Taylor then gasped sarcastically.

In 2013, Taylor said in an interview that she’s never yelled at an ex-boyfriend because she doesn’t throw fits.
