Rock The Vote, Day 25: The Bushes

Who did George W. Bush, Laura Bush, and Jenna Bush Hager vote for?

Rock The Vote is an original series, where I make an educated and researched guess on who certain celebrities are voting for Nov. 3, 2020.

George W. Bush is a former Republican President of the United States. He has one wife and two daughters.

According to The Atlantic, since Bush retired from politics, he plans to stay out of it and not endorse anyone. His former staffers wish he would come out as a Joe Biden supporter, however. One CNN opinion piece said that if Bush would endorse Biden, then he would practically win. According to a book about both Bush presidents, neither Bush voted for President Donald Trump in 2016. The elder Bush voted for Hillary Clinton, while the younger Bush didn’t vote for either.

Laura Bush, W’s wife, wrote an op-ed piece for The Washington Post against Trump’s zero-tolerance policy while separating children and their parents at the border.

Jenna Bush Hager, W’s daughter, is a co-host on The TODAY Show, and she like her parents and grandparents, is silent on politics. She did, however, like this tweet which says it’s hard to moderate a discussion with Trump. And this tweet from comedian Chelsea Handler about Trump “decomposing” himself in real time. Hager is not a member of the Republican party.

The Lincoln Project is a PAC run by Republicans who are against Trump. Stuart Stevens works on the PAC and he worked on W’s media team.

I believe the Bushes are voting for Biden.

Rock The Vote, Day 24: Lorne Michaels

Lorne Michaels doesn’t apologize for putting Trump on SNL.

vote2020

Rock The Vote is an original series, where I make an educated and researched guess on who certain celebrities are voting for Nov. 3, 2020.

Lorne Michaels is the creator and producer of Saturday Night Live and he has made some interesting comments about President Donald Trump.

To start things off, Trump hosted SNL in 2015, a decision that ultimately comes down to Michaels. Some critics of the decision have said that episode helped humanize Trump and helped him win the election. On top of that, former SNL cast member Taran Killam told a podcast in 2018 that Michaels instructed the cast not to “vilify” Trump while Trump was running for office.

Before the election in 2016, Michaels told New York Magazine that Trump could end up being the moderate. “Donald’s giving voice to what polite society has sort of sat on for a while, things that are felt but that no one is articulating,” Michaels said. “There is something happening there, or it wouldn’t be resonating.”

In 2018, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Michaels donated $5,000 to moderate Republican Sen. Susan Collins. According to her Wikipedia page, she seems to be pretty liberal for a Republican, however.

In 2019, Variety reported that Michaels hired comedian Shane Gillis in an attempt to appeal to the conservative crowd. Gillis never even made it on air; before the first episode of the new SNL season, Gillis’ past racist comments were brought to light and he was fired from the show.

SNL has had a long diversity issue — most of the cast throughout its 46-season run has been white. In 2020, comedian Tommy Davidson told The Breakfast Club that Michaels didn’t want to hire Davidson for SNL because Michaels wasn’t looking for a black comedian, adding that hiring Eddie Murphy was a “mistake.”

I feel like Michaels doesn’t vote. But I really don’t know.

Rock The Vote, Day 23: Jimmy Fallon

Remember when Jimmy Fallon ruffled Trump’s hair?

Rock The Vote is an original series, where I make an educated and researched guess on who certain celebrities are voting for Nov. 3, 2020.

Jimmy Fallon is a comedian, former SNL cast member, and current host of The Tonight Show. Truthfully, he is a person I think about often because I’m convinced a lot of things are going on behind the scenes but I also think about how Fallon is simply a comedian who now hosts The Tonight Show, a late-night talk show that has to get political quite often.

In 2016, before the election, Donald Trump appeared on The Tonight Show, where Fallon tousled Trump’s hair. This was met with much criticism as many people perceive Trump as a dangerous man who was treated like a celebrity on the show. After Trump won the presidency, Fallon apologized for the interview, saying he didn’t mean to “humanize” Trump; if anything he wanted to “minimize him.”

After Fallon apologized for this Trump interview, Trump tweeted for Fallon to “be a man” and not apologize for it. In response, Fallon donated to RAICES, an immigration rights organization, in Trump’s name. After Trump became president, Trump signed into effect an executive order that “banned foreign nationals from seven predominantly Muslim countries from visiting the country for 90 days, suspended entry to the country of all Syrian refugees indefinitely, and prohibited any other refugees from coming into the country for 120 days,” according to ACLU Washington.

In 2017 during an interview with The TODAY Show, Fallon said he doesn’t want to go into the “anti-Trump lane,” even though his peers, like Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert, are outspoken with their criticisms for the presidents. He added that he made jokes about former President Barack Obama and he continues to make jokes about Trump.

During the 2018 New Yorker Festival, Fallon said he tries to stay out of politics and not “preach” to his audience what he believes.

I believe Fallon is voting for presidential nominee Joe Biden.

Rock The Vote, Day 22: Kristin Cavallari

Kristin Cavallari is an anti-vaxxer. Uh oh.

Rock The Vote is an original series, where I make an educated and researched guess on who certain celebrities are voting for Nov. 3, 2020.

Kristin Cavallari is a reality TV star and jewelry line owner and the muse behind 500 Days of Kristin, which inspired 100 Days of Julianne, so honestly, we owe her a lot of respect.

But she’s also the estranged wife of Jay Culter, a man I know nothing about except he recently posted on Instagram his support for President Donald Trump. When a kind reader sent me this, it made us wonder if politics was a reason for Jay and Kristin’s divorce. Let’s dive in.

Cavallari is anti-vax, meaning she chose not to vaccinate her second child for fear it could cause autism. There is no link between autism and vaccinations, according to the CDC. The anti-vax movement started in the early 2000s, according to The New York Times, with help from celebrities like Jenny McCarthy and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., two celebrities Cavallari follows on Twitter and Instagram, respectively.

Cavallari liked this post from Kennedy, claiming the military will “coerce” a COVID-19 vaccination to Americans. Trump has said that vaccines cause autism, according to The New York Times.

In 2016, Cavallari seemingly defended Trump’s infamous Access Hollywood “grab ’em by the pussy” talk by saying men are sleazy and that’s how they talk. She added she would slap her sons across the face if she heard them talking that way.

I believe Cavallari is voting for Trump or not voting at all.

Rock The Vote, Day 21: Wendy Williams

Wendy Williams has been accused of transphobia.

Rock The Vote is an original series, where I make an educated and researched guess on who certain celebrities are voting for Nov. 3, 2020.

Wendy Williams is a radio jockey turned morning show host, who is known for her outspoken nature on pop culture.

But she rarely discusses politics or her opinion on a political candidate.

In 2015, Williams said she gets along with Donald Trump, but said she would not vote for him.

In a February 2016 interview with Larry King, Williams said she wasn’t sure who she was going to vote for in the 2016 election between Trump and Hillary Clinton. She said she would like to believe that Trump isn’t racist and that just because Clinton is a woman doesn’t mean she has to vote for her. Before Trump was president, he was on the Williams’ morning show several times.

Later in 2016, Williams seemed to think Clinton won a debate against Trump.

Williams has been accused of being homophobic and transphobic. During her show, she told men to “stop wearing our dresses and heels” and then said you have to menstruate in order to be a woman.

In 2016, Williams spoke out against historically Black colleges and the NAACP, saying if there was a historically white college and a white association, she would be offended. The idea of reverse racism (the idea you can be racist toward white people) is typically tied to conservative beliefs. There is little evidence that white Americans experience any kind of discrimination based on their skin color.

In May, Williams interviewed actor D.L. Hughley about who presidential nominee Joe Biden would pick as his vice president.

When Trump got COVID-19 and then tweeted that the American public shouldn’t be afraid of it, Williams shot back.

I would like to believe Williams is voting for Biden.

Rock The Vote, Day 20: Nancy Grace

Nancy Grace is … outspoken.

Rock The Vote is an original series, where I make an educated and researched guess on who certain celebrities are voting for Nov. 3, 2020.

Here is something embarrassing I’m going to admit: I used to be obsessed with Nancy Grace. Like, I would stay up until midnight during the summer and watch her show and even call in. Smiley face. I’m not sure what I was going to say if my call was chosen, but I guess I had opinions on Casey Anthony??!

For those of you who don’t know, Grace is a legal commentator and “journalist.” I use that word loosely. She has worked as a prosecutor and broadcaster. She is best known, however, for yelling on TV about murders. She was even depicted in Gone Girl.

Grace does not apologize even when she’s wrong. In 2002, during the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping case, Grace repeatedly said suspect Richard Ricci was guilty for Smart’s kidnapping, according to ABC News. He died in custody and was never found guilty. Grace never admitted she was wrong, however. There are plenty of other examples of that, too.

In May, Grace criticized presidential nominee Joe Biden on his response to being accused of sexual misconduct.

Grace hosted Crime Stories on Fox Nation, which is part of Fox News, which is a conservative news station.

In August, Grace appeared on Fox and Friend and said “defunding the police is not the answer.”

I believe Grace is voting for President Donald Trump.

Rock The Vote, Day 19: Katharine McPhee Foster

Katharine McPhee Foster is a Republican, lol.

Rock The Vote is an original series, where I make an educated and researched guess on who certain celebrities are voting for Nov. 3, 2020.

Katharine McPhee was runner-up on the fifth season of American Idol (I am not fact checking that, but I will fact check the rest of this blog). She is married to David Foster, who does something in the music industry (I think he writes songs and he’s won GRAMMYs).

McPhee is an actress and singer, appearing on the show SMASH and on the Broadway in Waitress. People have called her a gay icon. However, in September, a Twitter user uncovered that McPhee donates to Republican politicians.

Do I need to explain why being a Republican and gay icon doesn’t make sense? It’s Day 19 of this series, hopefully y’all get it.

McPhee follows a lot of Republicans on Instagram and likes their posts. I documented that here. She liked a post from Republican Congressman Dan Crenshaw about how Democrats should stop blaming the president.

I believe McPhee is voting for Trump.

Rock The Vote, Day 18: Trisha Paytas

Trisha Paytas has never voted before.

Rock The Vote is an original series, where I make an educated and researched guess on who certain celebrities are voting for Nov. 3, 2020.

Trisha Paytas is a famous YouTuber-turned-porn star, but she started her career as a troll.

There is so much to Paytas that it’s hard to write about it in one short paragraph, but she does idolize Andy Kaufman, a “comedian” who was famous for trolling. Paytas has made claims on YouTube that she is transgender and that she has multiple personality disorder. She is regularly involved with drama with other YouTubers and she has even said she’s Jewish by insemination because she’s dating a Jewish man. She loves fame and has made appearances on several TV shows.

In 2012, Paytas posted a YouTube video claiming she was supporting Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney. In the video, she is obviously dumbing herself down and being a troll. Paytas also appeared on Larry King’s YouTube show in support of Romney. In 2019, she said in a YouTube video that she was simply trolling for attention.

In that same 2019 video, Paytas said she does not support President Donald Trump even though a photo of her in a Trump shirt was circulating online. She also said in the video that she’s never even voted.

In September, Paytas posted a TikTok saying she was voting for presidential nominee Joe Biden.

I do not believe Paytas is voting.

Rock The Vote, Day 17: Tom Cruise

Who gets the Scientologists’ vote?

Rock The Vote is an original series, where I make an educated and researched guess on who certain celebrities are voting for Nov. 3, 2020.

I got drunk last night and didn’t write a blog ahead of time and now it’s 8:48 p.m. and I’m just now starting to feel better. I doubt anyone cares or anyone noticed, but apologies for the delay! It was my birthday!

Tom Cruise is an actor but more importantly, a Scientologist.

In 2019, Cruise met with a Ukrainian president to discuss shooting a movie there. This is significant because Trump reportedly asked that same president to “look into” presidential nominee Joe Biden and his son.

Also in 2019, Trump told a crowd of his supporters that America’s F-35 stealth fighter pilots are better looking than Cruise.

In 2009, Cruise publicly endorsed Democratic President Barack Obama.

Cruise is an outspoken supporter of the Church of Scientology. According to LA Times, Scientologists are socially conservative.

In 2017, Leah Remini, a former Scientologist who has spoken out against the cult, told TheWrap that Scientologists would have meetings on deciding which candidate to support. She also said she wouldn’t be surprised if the church supported Trump. A Scientology-heavy neighborhood in LA voted for Trump in 2016, according to TheWrap.

Based on Cruise’s involvement with Scientology, I believe he is voting for Trump.

Rock The Vote, Day 16: Megyn Kelly

Trump once insulted Megyn Kelly. But she is a Fox News chick.

Rock The Vote is an original series, where I make an educated and researched guess on who certain celebrities are voting for Nov. 3, 2020.

I have a vivid memory of Megyn Kelly co-hosting Live with Kelly the day after the 2016 election. Kelly Ripa asked Kelly to explain what the hell happened and Kelly offered a response I think about all the time. She said while a lot of people are upset, half of the country is happy. And that is something to acknowledge. (I cannot find a clip of her saying it, but I’m pretty sure she did. I did find this, though.)

It’s unclear, however, which half of America Kelly is in. Kelly, a former Fox News anchor, moderated a Republican primary debate in 2015 and after she asked President Donald Trump about his past comments about women, Trump retweeted tweets calling Kelly a “bimbo” and “unfair.”

“You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever,” he later told Don Lemon on CNN.

Kelly told ABC News: “It was bizarre because I became the story. He was so very focused on me that I became the story, and you know, you never want to be the story when you’re a newsperson. You want to be covering the story, so it was like an ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ experience.”
In 2017, Kelly interviewed three women who accused Trump of sexual misconduct.
The two had more back-and-forth, but things turned around Thursday night when Kelly tweeted that Trump won the most recent and last presidential debate. Trump thanked her on Twitter.
In 2020, Kelly interviewed Tara Reade, a woman who has accused presidential nominee Joe Biden of sexual assault.
In 2015, Kelly told Variety that she is an independent, and has voted for both Republican and Democratic candidates.
I believe Kelly is voting for Trump.
